Basswood is a light weight wood. It is white in color and can have green streaks in it. It is best suited for a solid finish. Typical weight for a SD1 body is under 4 lbs.
Mahogany is a medium to heavy weight wood. It has a fine grain and looks good with a Tung Oil finish. The tone of mahogany is warm and pleasant. Typical weight for a SD1 body is around 5lbs.
